Design and Technology

Design Technology
At Warren Farm, our children are taught how to plan, design and create a range of products linked to their topic. We enable them to evaluate their work, reflecting on what went well and what could be improved in the future. All the while the children are learning the functions of the equipment they use and how to use it safely.

Early Years
In the Early Years children are encouraged to create and make their own creations using their own imaginations or being able to follow instructions. By the end of Reception they are expected to have explored a variety of materials, tools and techniques, and then use what they have learnt about media and materials in their own work.

Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1, children are encouraged to plan, design and make their own objects linked to their topic. Children learn how to effectively evaluate their ideas and consider ways to improve the final product.

Key Stage 2
Throughout Key Stage 2, children continue to build upon skills previously taught. They research and develop a design in order to create a product, experimenting with a range of tools, materials and techniques. After completing the planning and production stages, children then evaluate and reflect back upon their products.

Within cookery lessons, children cover a range of recipes. They make fresh bread, sandwiches, salads and savoury snacks. They learn and develop skills including kneading, slicing and chopping whilst also learning about nutrition, personal hygiene and safety.
