We have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We handled and named them as well as, looking at their properties.
We have also learned the value of coins.
We have learned to add and subtract using the column method to help us.
Check out the slideshow below to look at all our hard work :)
Children have been introduced to column method addition (without regrouping). We first explored tens and ones focusing on greater and smaller numbers. Using our knowledge of place value we have applied our learning to column method addition by placing the tens an ones together in a column before adding the ones together and then adding the tens together.
In Numeracy, children have been introduced to variation by exploring different ways of making and seeing numbers. This has been presented using plenty of equipment such as dienes apparatus, straws and numicon. Children have been practising addition and subtraction and understand that numbers can be partitioned using the 'part-part whole' model. Pupils consider how best to break a number into two parts to make addition and subtraction easier. We have also been using key mathematical vocabulary such as 'greater' and 'fewer'.
Pictures of children's Numeracy work to follow.
We have been looking at how to add and subtract 2 digit and 1 digit numbers. We learned it is best to work with the tens digits first followed by the ones.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
