Year 3: Community Week
For Community Week, Year 3 worked alongside Birmingham City Mission. They are the charity that comes to our school to deliver assemblies from time to time. They paint pictures and tell stories about Jesus from the bible. A man who works for the City Mission visited our school during Topic Week.
Birmingham City Mission is a Christian charity, which help lots of people all over Birmingham, including people in our Kingstanding community. They help old people, sick people, refugees, the homeless, poor people and children.
They help people in lots of different ways. They have a food bank to help families who can’t afford to buy food. They have a lunchtime club for old people, where they can meet friends. They also visit elderly people in their homes, if they are lonely. They provide furniture for refugees who have had to leave their home countries because they weren’t safe there anymore. They also give furniture to people who can’t afford to buy new furniture themselves. At Christmas time, they give presents to children whose parents have no money to buy presents.
Finally, they help people who are homeless. They have nurses who will check that they are well. They also give them toiletries and socks so that they can keep clean and warm. Year 3 donated toiletries like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, soap and flannels and socks to keep them warm
